a little piece of paradise

On the way home from a really busy morning, I broke all our well-established and fully-embraced food rules. I stopped at a Taco Bell and ordered two Frito Burritos for Ren. Yes, Frito Burritos, filled with seasoned ground beef, cilantro rice, warm nacho cheese sauce, and original Fritos corn chips, wrapped up in a warm flour tortilla. There is nothing natural or organic about it. But it was hot, cheap, and convenient, and it was love at first bite for Ren. No, it was more than love, it was lust. It was as if he had never even eaten before, “I cannot believe that I have never had a Frito Burrito before!! This is so delicious.” And the rest of his meal was spent making yummy sounds. No burrito, no matter how fresh or organic, how exquisite or delectable, has lived up to the Taco Bell Frito Burrito. And whenever we pass a Taco Bell, Ren begins to salivate and lick the window in the car, crying out for his precious.

It has Fritos in it and meat. And it’s hot. That’s why I like it.
